Gina Osterloh
Gina Osterloh (b. 1973) earned her BA from DePaul University in 1996 and her MFA from the University of California, Irvine in 2007. Solo exhibitions and performances include Shadow Woman as part of En Cuatro Patas at The Broad Museum, Los Angeles; ZONES at Silverlens, Manila; Group Dynamic at Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE); Anonymous Front at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts; her first museum survey, Gina Osterloh: Mirror, Shadow, Shape at the Columbus Museum of Art; and Her Demilitarized Zone / Image Without Weapon at MOCA Detroit. Group exhibitions include Bay Area Then at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco; New Beginnings: Philippine Photographic Art at Fotografie Frankfurt Forum, Germany; The Rose at the CPW, Kingston; The Rose at the Lumber Room, Portland; Pinagtaling buhok, kinatawang bigkas (Hair tied together, embodied we speak) at Calle Wright, Manila; Not Visual Noise at Ateneo Art Gallery, Quezon City; Multiply, Identify, Her at the International Center of Photography, New York; an idea of a boundary at the San Francisco Art Commission; Energy Charge: Connecting to Ana Mendieta at ASU Museum; The Vexed Contemporary at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD), Manila; and Demolition Women at Chapman University. Awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Nancy Graves Grant for Visual Art, the Ohio Arts Council Grant for Individual Excellence, and a Create Cultivate Grant with the LA County Arts Commission and LACE. Artist residencies completed at the Center of Photography Woodstock, the Headlands Center for the Arts, and a Fulbright in Manila. Her work has been featured on the cover of Aperture’s “Being & Becoming: Asian in America” issue and reviewed in The New Yorker, Aperture, Artforum, Art in America, The Brooklyn Rail, Impulse Magazine, Lenscratch, Art Asia Pacific, Asian Art News, Art Papers, and KCET Artbound Los Angeles. She is an Associate Professor of Art in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University. Gina Osterloh's solo exhibitions at Higher Pictures were held in 2015 and 2021.
