Higher Pictures presents the first New York exhibition of Circus Days by Jill Freedman. The show will include over twenty vintage gelatin silver prints made and printed by the artist. This is Freedman’s third solo exhibition with Higher Pictures.

In 1971, with a borrowed white Volkswagen bus, Jill Freedman joined the Clyde Beatty-Cole Brothers Circus. She was on the move every night but two, for two months, photographing two shows a day and one show each Sunday. Seven weeks of one night stands’. Freedman traveled with the circus through New York, Massachusetts, parts of New Jersey, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania, and Ohio to make her art.

Jill Freedman was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1939. She has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows and has had her work published in leading newspapers and magazines. Freedman’s work is in important collections including: The New York Public Library, George Eastman House, The Museum of Modern Art, International Center of Photography, and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
