Higher Pictures’ new solo exhibition of Charles Swedlund focuses on the photographer’s works from the early 1970s. It was in these years that Swdlund explored the simultaneously playful, conceptual and documentary nature of photography. He pushed the boundaries of photographic media, using photos to create a range of peices including his famous flip books, puzzles and gumballs. Many of Swedlund’s such works require participation from the viewer, incorporating him or her directly into the piece and creating a more immersive experience of his art.
